Asus Eee 1008HA has been officially announced at last. It comes with an ergonomic keyboard and an intelligent energy management system. The Asus Eee 1009HA, also called as Asus Eee PC Seashell sports a crisp 10-inch LED-backlit WSVGA display having a maximum resolution of 1024×600 pixels. The Netbook has a intuitive multi-touch touch-pad. It is the thinnest EEE PC till date and weighs just a mere 1.1kg. It comes with an internal battery which is enough for 6 hours of un-wired entertainment. However, the battery is not replaceable by user, so you will have to get it replaced by Asus. One Laptop per Child (OLPC),  a non-profit association dedicated to research to develop a low-cost, affordable laptop has recently anounced that it will stop using the chips from Advanced Micro Devices in its XO-1 laptop hardware and use the processors from Via Technologies instead. The OLPC official announced on their website (via PCWorld) that it will be Via’s C7-M processor instead of AMD’s Geode processor to power the laptop.

The new refresh(Gen 1.5) will still be using the same industrial design and batteries as were used in the Gen 1. For maximiing the compatibility with the existig software, the XO Gen 1.5 will have a x86 processor, using a chipset from VIA. The memory will be increased to 1 GB of DDR2 SDRAM, and the built-in storage will be 4 GB of NAND Flash with an option for 8 GB.

The Via processor will operate at clock speeds of between 400MHz and 1GHz, which is considered an upgrade over the Geode LX processor in current XO laptops. The upgraded hardware should improve system performance while drawing similar amounts of power. The new Systems will become available for testing in August but unfortunately the date for volume shipments of the laptop wasn’t announced by OLPC.

Intel has introduced two new processors for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), Z550 and Z515. These two new processors were introduced at Celebrations of the 1-year anniversary of Intel Corporation’s introduction of its wildly popular Intel® Atom™ processor family. The Z550 is 2GHz chip with a sub-three watt power consumption and will be seen mostly in netbooks. The Z515 is a lower powered chip whose performance can be boosted on demand using “Burst Performance Technology”. During his keynote, titled “Mobility’s Next Wave of Growth,” Chandrasekher demonstrated the first live demo of Intel’s next-generation Atom-based MID platform, codenamed “Moorestown.” Chandrasekher provided a sneak peek into the low-power innovation of the platform by showcasing a greater than 10x idle power reduction compared to today’s Atom-based platform in a side-by-side demo. This dramatic reduction is made possible through a combination of new power management techniques, a new partition optimized for the MID segments and Intel’s Hi-k 45nm manufacturing process. In a press release, Intel said that the Moorestown platform is comprised of a System on Chip (codenamed “Lincroft”) that integrates a 45nm Intel® Atom™ processor core, graphics, video and memory controller, and a companion input/output (I/O) hub which will be due by 2010. The platform will be accompanied by a new Moblin software version that is optimized to enable the rich, interactive, PC-like Internet experience along with cellular voice capabilities.

Yeah! You are reading it right. Nokia, the Mobile Phone giant is considering to enter the laptop business by manufacturing small, portable and powerful Laptops for its loyal customers. Chief Executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said in an interview to Finnish national broadcaster YLE on Wednesday that Nokia is eyeing entering the laptop business. WHen asked about the Company’s plans to Produce laptops Kallasvuo said “We are looking very actively also at this opportunity.” Hefurther added “Today we have hundreds of millions of people who are having their first Internet experience on the phone. This is a good indication.” I have strong opinion that Nokia will use this to their advantage and it should. It has enable a long list of customers to get connected to the world. Nokia’s Low-end GPRS enabled phones have no doubt enabled the poor to experience the Internet which wouldn’t have otherwise afforded the Computers. This has resulted in a loyal following of Nokia products in the market. People will definitely prefer buying the Nokia Laptops instead of anyother brand they are not aware of. “All leading mobile network operators and retailers are adding connected notebooks and netbooks to their portfolios alongside mobile phones. On this basis it comes as no surprise that Nokia is evaluating this segment,” said Ben Wood, research director at CCS Insight.
